Geoff covered Black Bedrooms & Boudoirs and White Bedrooms — so now we're looking at combining the two. Simple and bold, black and white headboards add drama to a bedroom.
Here’s a new list for you: Best Traditional Bedding Sources. Since traditional is really swinging back into style and there’s a real grey area between the two, I thought I’d split them and make two lists. Monday, I gave you Best Modern. Today Best Traditional. Got your own best suggestion? Comment below so we can all see it.

Reclamation of the site & Confrontation of modern and tradition
The site is located in the outer Bukchon nearby the designated cultural properties of Seoul city like rampart of Seoul. Hyehwamun, Kim Sang Hyeop’s House. Many Korean-style houses are existed till now, but remained houses are removed at that with the housing development prevalence of multi-family house last year. So it is one of the villages that are in progress of modernization and Jo Rin Hun is same case that is pressed with the high-storied neighborhood. It was a distressed situation to unavoidably remove the existing Korean traditional house as a position of culture destroyer.
Inheritance of spatial tradition & Perpendicular residence/city as a ‘village’
The character of history and place of the Korean-style house inherited spatially by composing the ‘garden’ of existing house for ‘garden’ of Jo Rin Hun. This garden functions as a spatial element that satisfies the right of sphere and ownership with the recognition that each of the household living in this house is the owner of each separate house. Many detached house composed vertically with outside-stair as a passage and the small outside space will be a ‘city windpipe’ that connects that city and architecture strongly.
Multi-function of translucent skin & Mass being un-architecturally
By incoming the neighbored landscape with the expended metal translucent board, the light, wind, sound through the small vertical courtyard surrounded by each houses are effective and forming introverted calm spatial environment. It is intended to function hiding neighborhood, filtering surrounding landscape, control of the light by me lid of the outer cover adjoins neighborhood with translucent skin.
Indistinct landscape of the village, clearly visible shape of the Korean-style house, the whole views of Seoul with Namsan tower and the festive night views were the landscape program of Jo Rin Hun. The city and architecture are endowed with strong mutual response and finally this mass become to carry the un-architectural property of matter of transparency introversion, translucence extroversion. It is intended to feel Jo Rin Hun, which is vertical and huge mass comparatively, as ‘un-architectural’ property of matter to harmonize with the horizontal stable landscape formed by the remaining Korean-style houses and to form a new city context that corresponds to the change. It lost by the shaded portion of road, right to enjoy sunshine, cultural property protection. By indoor planting to the remaining mass, It could be recognized as an ecological mass, as well as, the whole could recognized as if translucent/opaque un-architectural object are covered with expended metal and intended to grant a formable sensitivity that harmonized with the image of Korean style house to the structure of skin.
Introduction of nomadic program and nature & Reduction of construction expenses
I aimed at nature-friendship by introducing the nature positively and aimed lies latent a small and abundant spatial story by residence together with the large and small houses.
By openly establish the secret private life programs, that is, concealable action apparatus like shower, bathtub, close-stool, washstand, he/she could liberate from restraint of secrecy by him/herself and could present action of life. With the preparation to feel the instinctive pleasure in the nature that is an instinctive environment, all the action of him/herself become a sight and concerned object. So it was an interesting work to plan the ‘place’ where exist a history and story to aware of the vestige of life always.
Such program is small, but could be said it is large, because there are a lot of contributions that sensed as large space and form a various/dramatic space, reduction of construction expenses.
The construction expense is a mountain to go over. It was effective for cost administration to minimize the expenses with the effort by using cheap materials like concrete floor, wall finishing, dryvit excluded finishing materials, prefabricate sandwich panel and simplification of process.
Light-house of life
I expect Jo Rin Hun, un-architectural architecture, to be a ‘light house of city’ that always lightens the neighborhood and to be a place where record and preserve the historic character of the site.
The benefits to renting instead of buying a home have been discussed and calculated here before, but the Get Rich Slowly blog offers a way to determine whether renting a particular house, in a certain neighborhood, makes better sense than buying.

There are plenty of online calculators that, given all the gory details of a home purchase, can determine whether buying a certain home is worth the investment—like TCalc’s own tool. What Get Rich Slowly suggests, though, is simply determining the price-to-rent ratio yourself, using a home you’d like to buy and a place you wouldn’t mind renting:
One way to tell whether it’s better to rent or buy is by checking out the price-to-rent ratio (or P/R ratio). This number gives you a rough idea whether homes in your area are fairly priced. Figuring a P/R ratio isn’t too tough. All you need to do is:
- Find two similar houses (or condos or apartments), one for sale and one for rent.
- Divide the sale price of the one place by the annual rent for the other. The resulting number is the P/R ratio.
If that ratio comes out above 20, the monthly costs of owning the home will likely exceed the cost of renting.
As J.D. has written, and other financial thinkers have echoed, owning a house is about a lot more than just dollars and math—if you love a place, and you love the idea of fixing and customizing it, renting is no substitute. But for a roof over your head for a certain amount per month, it's wise to think about the long-term savings of renting against the not-so-great investment of home ownership.
You’ll see a lot of encouragement to start freelancing on tech-obsessed blogs (ahem), often pitched with an eye toward some kind of ultimate freedom. The Freelance Folder blog drops a bit of work-from-home reality on would-be freelancers.

If you think working from home means being better able to adjust your schedule for your kids, your housework, and other non-work commitments, you’re probably thinking about the life you’ll have years from now, when you’re established and billing at the rate you want. At the beginning, however, freelancing is a long, lonely journey toward establishment, as Freelance Folder writes.
And as for saving money by not having to commute to the office, well, there’s a balance there, too:
While it’s true you’ll no longer have to fight morning or evening traffic, that doesn’t mean you can sell the car and save lots of money. It gets lonely in your own office so you’ll want to work remotely a few times a week.
… After you factor in this spending money and gas, plus the extra money you’ll spend on electricity and water now that you’re home more often, freelancing can easily add up to be more expensive than a nine to five job.
I once spent a ton of money at Target when I had no money coming in because I was “bored” from being at home all the time. Don’t make the same mistake!
It’s not that freelancing isn’t a great thing for the right kind of worker, with a particular set of skills. It’s that reality checks like this are a good thing to have on hand.

The house is a result of several stone boxes piled up on the side of a sloping area. Each one of these cases points and frames an outstanding view, where we can find Catedral, Otto, and Ventana mountains, as main characters of the landscape seen from inside.
The space is organized so that it can be divided in different zones, depending on the number of persons that are actually using the place. During most of the year, the house can be used by areas, smaller homes inside the big house for single couple trips or for groups of friends in leisure plans, or even both of them happening at the same time. These variety of layouts transform the inside life of the house, growing, changing, adapting, evolving.
We used local stones to keep a coherent language with the harsh and wonderful surrounding, trying to create the idea that the house was always there, just as another rock or an unnoticed natural feature. Snow seasons reinforce the idea. A white vast dominating view, only a few mountain peaks appear in dark contrast, and the house always there.
The social area is placed on the access level, dominating the best views captured by white calm boxes from inside, opposing to the overwhelming exterior. The master bedroom, and the guests room share this level too, each facing a different mountain, in this surprising kaleidoscope of sights.
On the ground floor level, the rooms for the kids, shaped by the land slope, creating different situations and volumes, and a two level loft, due to a sudden depression on the terrain becomes the boys master space.
As an extension of the deck, a sinuous wooden stair guides us to the last box, resting a few steps below. A sightseeing Jacuzzi offers the best sunset views of lake Gutierrez, and below the wooden deck, a warm gym and a sauna complete this relax an inspiring lookout, in an ideal mood, slightly above the Patagonian valley.
